W3LRC Field Day

The ARRL Field Day is a 24-hour event held the last full weekend of June every year. It is an opportunity to practice operating under less then optimum conditions to prepare for communication during emergencies. The general objective is to contact as many other field day sites as possible in a 24-hour period. It’s also a good chance to show off amateur radio to the community.

This is your opportunity to take part in the this year’s ARRL field day! Field Day will be June 27th & 28th, in Laurel, at River Front Park just off Main Street at the end of Avondale Street. (N 39.107152, W 76.845426) or (22 Avondale Street, Laurel MD 20707 in Google Maps ).

The club will be running “2A, that’s two radio positions running on emergency power. The setup will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday and “Key Down” (the start) will be at 2:00 pm Saturday. Field Day will continue until 2 pm Sunday.

The club 147.54 MHz simplex frequency will be used for “talk in” and “coordination”. The plan is to work a 24-hour period 2 pm Saturday to 2 pm Sunday. There will likely be several people staying to operate overnight. You want to consider bringing some things with you, a chair, food & drink, light jacket for the evening chill, bug repellent and sunscreen. We have the use of all three pavilions with picnic tables.

We are fairly low key about the “contest” part of Field Day. Our main objective is to have fun! You do not need to be a club member to join us! You Do Not need to be experienced! Just come on down and join us!

We are inviting everyone to participate. We need SSB, CW, and digital operators along with  antenna installers, etc.  If you think you can come to operate or help out please email me so we can make plans.  This year we will be using the City’s communications van again for our operations. We already have a HF, VHF & UHF radio in the van (that really needs a workout). We will be setting up two other radios in the conference section. If plans work out, we will also have a HF beam on a bucket truck. We are trying to schedule operators this year to keep the radios running and looking for help with setting up and breaking down. If you’d like to participate or help out with field day, please fill out the form linked below.

Field Day Picnic

Every year during Field Day the club does a picnic.   This year the picnic will be Saturday from 5-7pm.  The club will be providing the hot dogs & hamburgers and those attending should plan to bring a favorite picnic side dish to share and a chair. Please email me if you plan to come and how many people you may bring with you.  We need to know how many people to expect so we can make sure we have enough hot dogs & hamburgers!
